While there is a maintenance and home improvement component to Decorating and Gardening, the obvious difference is the fact that these can be both in and outside the home and are less "structural" to the house.

However, while all of these are more subjective as to what quality workmanship and materials means to a given homeowner, clearly these kinds of home improvements also make a subjective difference to the "quality of life" of the homeowner and may also add value to the home in the form of better aesthetics.  An attractively landscaped yard with trees, shrubs, flower beds, water features and the like would clearly be more appealing to most home buyers than a near barren yard with just a grass lawn.  Also, certain structural components like window and door moldings also contribute to the aesthetics of a home and in some ways could be considered "decorating", casting a colonial style to a kitchen or an elegant feeling to a dining room.
